Uriangato - 1o Encuentro Internacional de Alfombristas

In collaboration with: Flower Carpet

On September 2016 we were invited at the very First International Gathering of Ephemeral Art Carpets organized by  La Octava Noche A.C. -a group of ephemeral artists based in Uriangato, Gto. Mexico- with the support of the International Coordinator of Ephemeral Art. From sept. 29th to oct. 5th this group celebrates  their yearly tradition in honour of the holy protector of their city, Uriangato. Therefore they cover up 7kms of pavement with flower-, coloured sawdust- and ephemeral art carpets, creating a procession where later on the holy image of Saint Michael will pass.

On 2016 they wanted to link their tradition to an international event to promote ephemeral art carpets, to expand the knowledge around this art category and to embrace the different ways of understanding ephemeral art according to artists of different countries. Thats why they invited groups of artists of Belgium, Italy, Spain, Japan and other mexican groups and they gave us all the chance to build an ephemeral art carpet using our own technique.

We built an ephemeral art carpet depicting the Saint Michael of the cityhall of Brussels, and while our inicial intention was to build it entirelly with full flowers and treebark (as our tradition was), due unpredictable circumstances we had to make a last minute change of plans, and we introduced coloured sawdust in our design (a local material with which we had no experience, but that we loved working with).
